New office plants
Plantforce have recently delivered and installed over 50 new plant displays using the new Lechuza Diamante containers for a new office development in Central London. The brief was to come up with something modern, simple and contemporary, more importantly not to obscure the view! As you can see in the picture the view is amazing as are the plants, a view shared by the client!. The plants have been well received and echo the modern contemporary offices which have been fitted out to a high design specification, more akin to a 5* boutique hotel than an office. The new Diamante containers from Lechuza, supplied by AB Terratec and planted with Ripsalis, supplied by Koberg reflect the high design of the office and its fixtures and fittings, illustrating the importance plants play in bringing an office together and providing a little bit of green in the middle of central London

Plantforce and peat use - the facts
Plantforce and Peat use - the facts - • Peat forms at a rate of only 1mm per year, whilst peat extractors remove up to 22cm a year. A 10m deep peat reserve, which took around 10,000 years to form, will be cleared in less than 50 years • Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) estimate that 2.96 million m3 of peat is used in the UK annually, of which 99% is used as growing media and 69% of which is used by gardeners. Sixty-eight percent of all peat used in the United Kingdom is imported from other countries, incl. the Republic of Ireland and the Baltic states (Defra, 2010). • The Growing Media Initiative (GMI), is a scheme that aims to encourage the horticultural industry in the UK to reduce peat use in line with government targets. Defra recognises the different challenges facing the amateur and professional markets and has therefore proposed that peat is phased out by 2020 for the amateur gardening market for bagged growing media and by 2030 for professional growers. Where and when possible Plantforce have introduced peat free alternative growing mediums for the office plants that they provide and actively encourage their plant suppliers to do the same. We currently use 2 planting mediums Wormcast Infloex Media: 89% Peat (Recycled from Worm Breeding) 10% Wormcast By Product from Waste Process (Vermicomposting) 1% Pearlite Vermi Pro Recycled Compost 35% Peat (Recycled from Worm Breeding) 35% Wood Fibre (Recycled) 20% Greenwaste Compost (Recycled Garden Waste) 10% Wormcast By Product from Waste Process (Vermicomposting) These products are produced by the feeding action of earthworms. They are the end product of the action of millions of earthworms passing recycled organic matter through their gut a number of times. During this process of fragmenting and grinding the organic matter becomes finely divided humus like material with high porosity, aeration, drainage and water holding capacity. This process greatly enhances microbial activity and accelerates the rate of decomposition. This leads to a humification effect where unstable organic matter or decomposing plant and animal matter is oxidized and stabilized. Research scientists have termed this process vermicomposting so the generic name for the special ingredient of our products is vermicompost The Vermi Pro Recycled compost has 10mm greenwaste compost which comes from the Brynpica Landfill site which is run by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, The other raw material which is the wood chip came from The Old Sawmills in Llangadog, Carmarthenshire. These products are organic due to the unique way they are produced and are endorsed by the official UK organic standards and the soil association

Elephant family
Plantforce are pleased to support the Elephant Family. Elephant Family is the UK\'s biggest funder for the endangered Asian elephant. Massive habitat loss has caused their numbers to plummet by 90% in the past 100 years, earning them an unwanted place on the IUCN red list. Elephant Family exists to save this iconic animal from extinction in the wild, along with tigers, orangutans and all the other animals who share their habitat. Working with local people and partner NGOs, we currently fund 12 projects across Asia and invest where we are needed most: to protect habitat, prevent conflict and reconnect the forest homes of the endangered Asian elephant.
